Taliban carry out group attack on Afghan city in north

Taliban fighters have carried out group attack on Pul-e Khumri city, the center of Baghlan province on Sunday morning (1 September)
According to local officials, the Taliban fighters carried out the attack from the direction of Karkar mountains on parts of Pul-e Khumri city. The attacks followed by explosions were quickly repelled by Afghan security forces, the officials added.
Initial reports suggest that Rauf Andarabi, a commander of militia forces who led a group of local fighters against the Taliban has been killed in the Taliban attack.
This comes as Taliban stormed Kunduz province from several directions on Friday night (30 August) and engaged in fierce fighting with Afghan security forces.
Simultaneously, a suicide attack carried out by a Taliban militant in Kunduz claimed the lives of more than ten people including the spokesman for Kunduz police chief and left ten others injured.
