The Taliban have claimed responsibility for an attack on an American convoy that killed one US soldiers and wounded several others.

“A powerful explosion hit a convoy of the American invaders and their mercenaries in Chahar Dara district of Kunduz Province, killing one US soldier and injuring another including an Afghan Commando personnel,” the Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said in a twitter post.

According to US Forces-Afghanistan, one American service member died in combat Monday following an attack. The Americans did not release any additional information.

The attack comes as the new round of US-Taliban talks are underway in Doha. US president in September declared negotiations “dead” after the Taliban killed an American soldier in a Kabul bombing.
