The Taliban has reacted to the recent remarks made by the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo who accused the group of being incapable and incompetent.

Taliban Spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid wrote on his twitter that “the peace process has faced challenges following Trump’s tweet, numerous demands of America and differences among officials in Washington and Kabul.”

Speaking at a joint press conference with his Uzbek counterparty Abdul Aziz Kamilov in Tashkent, the US secretary of state urged the Taliban to stop violence before an agreement is reached.

“We got close once before to having an agreement, a piece of paper that we mutually executed, and the Taliban weren’t able to demonstrate either their will or their capacity, or both, to deliver on a reduction in violence,” he said.

This comes as the US Special Peace Envoy Zalmay Khalilzad in his recent meetings with Afghan leaders said that the peace process had no notable progress so far.
