Taliban reiterate call for US troop withdrawal from Afghanistan
01 Apr 2021
The Taliban have once again insisted on the withdrawal of foreign troops at the appointed time.
Mohammad Naeem, a spokesman for the Taliban’s political bureau, wrote on Twitter that the group’s delegation had met with Zalmay Khalilzad, the US special envoy for peace in Afghanistan, and called for the implementation of the Doha agreement, saying the withdrawal would help solve Afghanistan’s problems.
The Taliban delegation also discussed the issue of the remaining Taliban prisoners with Khalilzad.
The US peace envoy also met with the Afghan government’s peace negotiating team.
The two sides discussed the need to speed up the ongoing negotiations and also focused on the upcoming conference in Turkey, according to a statement released by the Afghan delegation in Doha.
The Turkey-led UN-led summit on Afghanistan is scheduled for late April.
