The shadow district governor of the Taliban who led the military wing of the group has been arrested in Baghlan Province, according to Baghlan police.

Two senior members of the Taliban group who had been carrying out sabotage activities on the Baghlan-Kunduz highway were arrested in a joint operation by security forces, provincial police spokesman Ahmad Jawid Basharat said.

Mr. Basharat added that these individuals confessed that they had been involved in attacks on security forces’ checkpoints on the Baghlan-Pul-e-Khumri and Baghlan-Samangan highways for several years.

The Taliban have not yet commented on the report.
