A group of Taliban fighters have stormed police headquarters of Herat Province’s Ghoryan district on Saturday morning, according to local officials.

The Taliban attempted to capture Ghoryan district but faced strong resistance from Afghan security forces, Provincial Police Spokesman Abdul Ahad Walizada said.

Clashes are still underway between Afghan security forces and the Taliban and there has been no report on casualties so far.

In a separate report, 25 Taliban fighters including several of their commanders were killed and eight others got injured during clashes with Afghan security forces in Pashtun Zarghoon district of Herat Province.

The Taliban has not yet commented on the report.
