Temporary truce is not fundamental solution to country’s problems – Abdullah
10 May 2021
Abdullah Abdullah, Chairman of the High Council for National Reconciliation (HCNR), says he believes that the solution to the current crisis in the country is speeding up of negotiations, declaration of a permanent ceasefire and permanent cessation of hostilities.
“Declaring a temporary ceasefire on the occasion of Eid provides a brief opportunity for the people to relax, but is not a fundamental and permanent solution to the country’s problem,” he said.
Abdullah asserted that there is no military solution to the crisis in Afghanistan and that no group should make a miscalculation leads to further killings and violence.
“We once again call on the Taliban to resume negotiations, declare a permanent ceasefire, cease hostilities and bloodshed, and find a comprehensive, just, dignified and acceptable political solution that is accepted by all parties,” he added.
The Taliban on Sunday announced a three-day ceasefire on the occasion of Eid- al Fitr.
