There will be chaos if world averts eyes from Afghanistan – Pakistan’s PM

31 Jan 2022
Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that if the world does not pay attention, the situation in Afghanistan would continue to be chaotic as in the past.
“After 20 years, if everyone abandons Afghanistan, almost forty million people will face the worst humanitarian crisis. If there is chaos in Afghanistan, the situation will be similar to 20 years ago when the United States invaded Afghanistan. If there is chaos, similar events will happen again,” he said.
He blamed foreign countries for the current situation in Afghanistan and said: “Afghanistan has suffered for forty years. Foreign countries are responsible for all this. They turned Afghanistan into a battlefield. Hence, the people of Afghanistan have suffered for forty years. Forty years later, there is now a chance for peace in Afghanistan, because there is no war in Afghanistan after forty years.”
Mr. Khan also called on the international community, especially the United States, not to leave the Afghan people alone in such a situation.
“The international community must pay attention to the 40 million people in Afghanistan. Whether they like the Taliban government or not is the second issue. The welfare of the Afghan people must be a priority. Because they are facing the worst humanitarian crisis now and they need help as soon as possible,” he asserted.
In the last five and a half months since the Taliban took over Afghanistan, Pakistan has repeatedly emphasized the need for immediate humanitarian assistance in Afghanistan to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe and a new wave of migration.
Islamabad also called on the United States to unfreeze Afghanistan’s foreign exchange assets to get the country out of the current crisis.
