Troop reduction will not affect security – President Ghani
18 Feb 2020
Afghan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani says withdrawal of 4,000 American troops from Afghanistan will not affect the security situation.
President Ghani at the second consultative peace meeting, discussed peace related issues with commanders of military corps in Kabul on Monday, February 17.
Ghani said: “Afghan security forces are capable to manage the existing threats. They stand in support of the peace process as they resisted against warring groups.”
Ghani told the Afghan military commanders that “your resistance in war over the past two years forced the Taliban not to achieve their objectives.”
The president insisted that the Afghan government’s stance for ending war offered this opportunity for the Taliban to accept violence reduction.
