Twin blasts kill three, injure 19 in Afghan eastern province

Twin explosions in Jalal Abad, the center of eastern Nangarhar Province killed three civilians and injured 19 others, according to local officials.
Ataullah Khogyani, spokesman for the provincial governor said, the explosions occurred in the 4th police precinct near the province’s prosecutor’s building.
He added: Two explosions occurred one after another. Three civilians, including a 22-year-old girl and a 40-year-old woman, were martyred in the incidents. 19 others, including four women, two children, four other civilians, 8 security officers, two traffic-police employees, three border forces and three employees of the National Directorate of Security, NDS, sustained injuries in the explosions.
” First, an explosion happened. A rickshaw-type vehicle carrying women was crossing the area and people had gathered to cover the first blast when the second one went off. Four people in the rickshaw were wounded and police transferred them to the nearby hospital. A number of police forces also got injured in the explosion”, an eyewitness was quoted as saying.
According to hospital reports, two of the injured are in critical condition.
No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack in Nangarhar, but both Taliban insurgents and Islamic State affiliates are active in the eastern province.
