Unknown armed men shot dead two staff members of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) in western Herat Province, according to local officials.

Provincial Police Chief General Aminullah Amarkhil said the UN employees were killed in the restive of Gozara district of the province.

No one has so far been arrested in connection with the incident. Police has launched an investigation into the case.
