UN Security Council puts IS-K on its blacklist
16 May 2019
The United Nations Security Council has added the Islamic State Khorasan (IS-K) to its sanctions blacklist.
The Al-Qaida and ISIL Sanctions Committee at the United Nation Security Council accused IS-K of carrying out deadliest attacks in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
The committee added that IS-K has links with major terrorist groups including Al-Qaeda.
The afghan government has welcomed the UNSC decision in this regard.
“We welcome the move by the U.N. to put the terrorists on its backlists and we hope that this process will continue so that no terror group is able to operate freely,” Afghan foreign ministry spokesman Sibghatullah Ahmadi said.
IS-K militant group was formed four years ago by a former commander of the Pakistani Taliban and has sworn allegiance to the Islamic State.
