A young man was shot dead by unknown armed men in Balkh Province, according to local security officials.

The man who served as police officer in 9th police precinct of Mazar-e- Sharif City was shot dead near his home, Provincial Police Spokesman Adel Shah Adel said.

Target killings have increased in Afghanistan in recent days. On Saturday evening, unidentified armed men killed, Mohammad Hassan Akhlaqi, former senator from Zabul Province in Qala Wazir area of Kabul City.

No one has so far been arrested in connection to the incidents.
