US President Joe Biden on Friday thanked the US army for its sacrifices in Afghanistan and other parts of the world.

Speaking to service members and their families at a military base in Virginia, Biden claimed the US troops had achieved their objective in Afghanistan.

“Went to Afghanistan with a clear purpose: to get the people who attacked us on 9/11 and to prevent al Qaeda from using Afghanistan as a base from which to attack America in the future.  We achieved that purpose — you achieved that purpose,” he said.

The purpose of their deployment was to prevent Al Qaeda from using Afghanistan as a base from which to attack America in the future, he explained.

he stated the greatest threat and likelihood of attack from al Qaeda or ISIS was not going to be from Afghanistan.

He believed the terrorist threat would stem from five other regions with a greater presence of Al Qaeda and ISIS. “It’s going to be from five other regions of the world that have significantly more presence of both al Qaeda and organizational structures, including ISIS.”
