The US Special Envoy for Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad has arrived in Kabul on Tuesday as the Afghan peace negotiating team departed the capital for Doha.

Sources in the High Council for National Reconciliation (HCNR) said that Khalilzad will met senior Afghan officials and discuss next steps in the peace process.

Khalilzad was slated to visit Doha to attend the opening ceremony of the second round of intra-Afghan talks.

The US peace envoy expressed hope that he would see progresses in the next round of talks and that both sides must show real compromise to agree on a political understanding as soon as possible and reduce violence and announce a ceasefire immediately.
