US NSA calls for urgent launch of intra-Afghan talks

The president of Afghanistan Mohammad Ashraf Ghani and Chairman of High Council for National Reconciliation Abdullah Abdullah, in a telephone conversation with the US National Security Adviser Robert C. O’Brien discussed peace-related issues.
During the phone call, O’Brien said the United States supported a united and independent Afghanistan that no longer serves as a safe haven for terrorism.
The two sides stressed the need to launch the intra-Afghan negotiations as quick as possible, the presidential palace said in a statement.
Both sides also stressed the importance of reducing violence from the Taliban side in order to ensure an enduring peace in the country.
