US Special Peace Envoy for Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad has called for immediate launch of the Intra- Afghan negotiations.

“I call on all sides who seek peace to accelerate the peace process and start intra-Afghan negotiations,” he wrote on his twitter.

The US envoy has also condemned the attempt on Fawzia Kofi, describing it a cowardly and criminal act by those who seek to delay and disrupt the Afghan Peace Process.

The prisoner exchange process was about to be completed after the the Loya Jirga (Grand Assembly) but it seems the process has been suspended due to unknown reasons.

In a separate report, Acting Afghan Foreign Minister Mohammad Haneef Atmar in a telephone conversation with his Qatari counterpart Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani discussed the issue of prisoner release, the launch of intra-Afghan talks and the peace process.
