Quoting two senior officials of Trump’s administration, CNN reported that Donald Trump was finalizing a decision to withdraw additional 4,000 American troops from Afghanistan.

According to the report, the number of American troops will reduce to 4,500.

Although the exact time for implementation of the plan has not been specified, the report further added that troop withdrawal would affect the process of training and advising Afghan security forces.

Meanwhile, the US Defense Secretary Mark Esper has shared the decision with NATO secretary general and other members of the organization.

However, spokesman for the US Defense Department has reiterated that troop withdrawal is condition based and will take place after the Taliban abide by their commitments in the peace deal with the USA.

Presidential Spokesman Sediq Seddiqi told a press conference on Saturday that Afghanistan and USA’s relations is based on a sustainable commitment.

Elsewhere, Reuters reported that the intra-Afghan talks had been delayed due to Afghan government and NATO’s opposition to the release the ‘most dangerous’ Taliban prisoners who are accused of carrying out large-scale attacks in Afghanistan.

Sayyed Akbar Agha, a close figure to the Taliban has said that the group is expecting complete release of its prisoners from detention centers of Afghanistan in order to launch the intra-Afghan negotiations.

Earlier, the Afghan government said it had taken all necessary steps to launch the intra-Afghan talks, urging the Taliban to get ready for the negotiations.

According to reports, so far 3895 Taliban prisoners have been released from Afghanistan prisons.
