US president urges Taliban to reduce violence for meaningful talks

The US President Donald Trump told Afghanistan’s President Ashraf Ghani on the sideline of the World Economic Forum held in Davos, Swiss that there cannot be meaningful negotiations until the Taliban significantly reduces its violence, the White House said in a statement on Wednesday.
“Trump reiterated the need for a significant and lasting reduction in violence by the Taliban that would facilitate meaningful negotiations on Afghanistan’s future,” the White House said.
Meanwhile, Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has told the Foreign Policy that Afghanistan is very important for the United States and for Pakistan at the moment.
