The United States is willing to reduce the number of American troops in Afghanistan ahead of the US presidential elections, US officials said.

Washington intends to bring the number of its troops in Afghanistan down to 5,000 by November 2020, US Secretary of Defense Mark Esper told Fox News.

Earlier, the US President Donald Trump had said that his administration would reduce its troop level in Afghanistan to 4,000 up to 5,000.
