Violence is clearly on rise in Afghanistan – Khalilzad
21 Sep 2020
US Special Envoy for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad has expressed regret over the increase of violence concurrent with the start intra-Afghan negotiations.
“Over the last few days, there has been a clear rise in violence in Afghanistan. This escalation is regrettable as Afghans, including many civilians, are losing their lives,” Khalilzad said on his twitter.
Mr. Khalilzad further says that given the start of peace talks, all parties should reduce violence significantly.
In the meantime, UN envoy Deborah Lyons in a meeting with chairman of the High Council for National Reconciliation, Abdullah Abdullah, has urge the warring parties to take immediate measures to protect civilians, and create conducive atmosphere for Doha peace talks.

UN stands with #Afghanistan in this crucial period, she asserted.
