18 Jan 2021
Chairman of the High Council for National Reconciliation (HCNR) Abdullah Abdullah has reiterated his call for a ceasefire in the country.
Speaking at the second virtual meeting on strengthening the consensus in support of the peace process, Mr Abdullah said the issue of a ceasefire and an end to violence was a priority for the government of Afghanistan in Qatar.
Abdullah also reaffirmed the regional and international consensus for achieving peace in Afghanistan.
On the other hand, the negotiating teams of the government and the Taliban held a meeting on Sunday evening.
The two sides have discussed agenda of the peace talks, according to reports.
But some citizens have strongly criticized the pause in the intra-Afghan talks, saying that civilians are being sacrificed in different parts of the country on a daily basis due to increasing violence.
