Afghan forces repel Taliban attack on district in northeast

Afghan security forces have repelled an assault by the Taliban fighters on Dasht-e Qala district in northeastern Takhar Province.
Jawad Hijri, the provincial governor’s spokesman said that the Taliban fighters were forced to retreat from the district after Afghan military reinforcements arrived on the ground.
The clashes are still underway in the outskirts of the district, he added.
According to Hijri, 16 armed Taliban militants have been killed and injured during the clashes. Meanwhile, speaking on condition of anonymity, a security source has said that casualties have been inflicted on Afghan security forces during the clashes as well.
Taliban fighters have carried an assault on Dasht-e Qala district on Saturday.
