Speaking at a press conference, live streamed by mainstream TV channels in Afghanistan, Head of the Independent Election Commission (IEC) Hawa Alam Nuristani assured the Afghan people that the initial results of presidential polls will be announced on 14 November.

Nuristani said:” The respected commissioners, we and the secretariat of the electoral body have decided to announce preliminary results of the presidential elections on 23 Aqrab (14 November).

” We need to take steps cautiously. We are committed to transparency and impartiality and will protect each individual vote cast by each and every voter for all the candidates,” she added.

“We are neither under pressure internally nor internationally,” she went on to say.
