IEC announces initial results of Afghanistan election

The Independent Election Commission of Afghanistan (IEC) on Monday announced the initial results of the presidential elections after months of delay.
Speaking at a press conference broadcast live from mainstream Afghan TV channels, IEC chairwoman Hawa Alam Nuristani said that Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, the incumbent president has got 50.64 percent of the votes, while his main rival Abdullah Abdullah earned 39.52 percent of the votes.
Meanwhile, according to IEC, Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, has ranked third as he obtained 3.85 percent of the votes.
