The US Special Envoy for Afghanistan Peace Zalmay Khalilzad who arrived in Kabul on a surprise visit on Sunday met with Afghanistan Chief Executive Officer Abdullah Abdullah.

Abdullah wrote on his Facebook page that he met with Khalilzad and his accompanying delegation in Sapidar Palace.

“The two sides exchanged views on the Afghan peace process and stressed the importance of achieving a sustainable and reasonable peace. Both sides also urged the Taliban to denounce violence and announce a ceasefire to begin an intra-Afghan dialogue,” according to a statement published on Abdullah’s Facebook page.

“The two sides also stressed the need to preserve transparency in the elections and allow the electoral body to make its own announcement,” it further added.
