The first pistachio processing factory started operating in Badghis Province.

The factory, with a total value of USD 160,000 has been built by the Ministry of Agriculture and the private sector, local official say, adding that with standard processing and packaging of pistachio, the price of this dried fruit will increase.

Earlier, agricultural products in particular pistachio was processed and packed through traditional methods in Badghis.

Badghis Provincial Governor Husameddin Shams says efforts are underway to find market for agricultural products and in particular pistachio in the province.

Local officials in Badghis also say that the province’s domestic products have decreased due to Covid-19 outbreak.

Expressing optimism over inauguration of pistachio processing factory, some traders of pistachio say the price of this dried fruit will go up in the prince henceforward.

Badghis province has the largest natural pistachio forests; But decades of war have devastated large areas of these forests and reduced fruit yields.
