Iran welcomes start of intra-Afghan talks

Iran has welcomed the start of intra-Afghan negotiations and voiced support for the process.
The ministry of foreign affairs of Afghanistan said in a statement that the Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in a telephone conversation with his Afghan counterpart, Mohammad Haneef Atmar, promised that Tehran spared no effort to help the government and the people of Afghanistan for the success of the Afghan peace process.
The two sides discussed the importance of regional and international consensus on Afghan peace, reduction of violence, immediate ceasefire, neighboring and regional countries’ support for the process, bilateral cooperation in political, economic, security and economic fields, Finalization of the comprehensive document of strategic cooperation between the two countries, Khwaf-Herat railway project and other relevant issues, the statement added.
Underscoring the role of neighboring countries, in particular Iran, in the peace process, Haneef Atmar, said that reducing violence and establishing an immediate ceasefire were important for the success of the talks.
